YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)Economic relations between Egypt and Armenia’seem to be heading in the right direction–said the Deputy Foreign Minister of Egypt–Mohammed Fathi Al Shazli–at a recent meeting with Government Chief of Staff Gagik Shahbazian.
Al Shazli said that the low volume of trade between the two countries was the result of difficulties in transportation–adding that the delgation would attempt to resolve those obstacles during its visit..
The Egyptian delegation included representatives from Egypt’s National Bank and major businesses with whom trade and economic cooperation was a possibility. Joint efforts in improving healthcare– cultural and educational programs were also discussed during the meeting.
Al Shazli also met with Levon Ter-Petrosyan and later told the press that Ter-Petrosyan again invited Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to visit Armenia.
Al Shazli said that Egypt had friendly relations with Azerbaijan and Turkey. He said that it was very important to maintain the cease-fire in Karabakh and continue negotiations within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group.
