YEREVAN—The defense ministers of Armenia and Georgia Davit Tonoyan and Levan Izoria on Thursday renewed a military cooperation program between the two countries that has been in effect since 2010.
“We have discussed the bilateral relations of Armenia and Georgia in the defense sector. We have signed the 2019 military cooperation program between Armenia and Georgia which has been in place 2010. This year the program is full of events relating to the defense field, such as military education, human rights, military medicine, as well as various measures for fighting corruption. Armenia and Georgia mutually perceive and respect each other’s preferences and believe in the idea of having a more secure and prosperous South Caucasus,” Tonoyan said during a joint press conference.
Izoria said Georgia is ready to share its experience with the Armenian Armed Forces in a number of sectors.
“We had very productive discussions with the Armenian defense minister on issues relating to how to deepen the cooperation between our Armed Forces. The Georgia is ready to share its experience with the Armenian side, said Izoria adding that his country has successfully shared its experience with a number of NATO member states.
Izoria also met with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who praised the friendly relations between the two neighboring countries.
The sides exchanged views on regional security and stability and the peaceful resolution of conflicts in the region, emphasizing the importance of mutual efforts in that direction.
Pashinyan highlighted the balanced position of Armenia and Georgia on regional conflict resolution processes.
Izoria also led his delegation on a visit to the Dzidzernagapert Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex, where they laid wreaths in memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide. The group also visited the Madenadaran—the repository of ancient Armenian manuscripts.
Did Mr Izorian bring us some delicious xikalis and xatchapuri? While showing us the beautiful technics of dancing?
Who will Georgia confront to save Armenia? One they can’t block and the other two have direct and separate borders. All the other sharing of stuff has yielded little to no effect since 2010. This is just another feel good motion with absolutely no real world effect. Something for defense ministers to have a photo op and make them look busy in their suites.
