YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Armenia is in a unique position to act as a neutral mediator between Russia and Georgia, the co-chair of the Armenian-Georgian Business Association, Volodya Badalian, said Tuesday during a press conference in Yerevan.
Armenia maintains good relations with both Georgia and Russia and does not need to take sides in the current conflict in the region, he added.
“We must not think about which country to support. We are on the side of everybody,” he said. “They must solve their issue on their own.”
Armenia negotiated between Russia and Georgia three years ago to ease tensions between the two countries in order to reopen a railway passing through the territory of Abkhazia, Badalian explained.
“I do not think that we can participate in the domestic or foreign policy of this or that country. Of course there are a lot of difficulties in this respect, in any case these two countries are important for us,” he said. “Georgia is an ancient friend and Russia is our strategic partner.”
