YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The Genocide Monument Dzidzernagabert Thursday once again became the site of pilgrimage for thousands of Armenia’s–who gathered to remember the Armenian Martyrs of the Genocide.
The procession to the monument also included numerous people from various regions of the country–as well as several guests and diplomatic representatives. Levon Ter-Petrosyan–Babken Ararktsian–members of the National Assembly and other officials also laid flowers at the monument beginning mid-morning. Among the guests were former chairman of the Russian Security Council Alexander Lebed and his wife. The procession was led by Catholicos Karekin I. His Holiness–in his address–told Ter-Petrosyan that the will of those who perished is one single Homeland.
Also present was Damascus Governor Mohammed Zuheir Tahlibi.
In a gathering at Yerevan’s Liberty Square–former presidential candidate Vazgen Manoukian told his supporters April 24 must unite all Armenia’s–regardless of their political leanings.
The Nagorno-Karabakh Republic also honored the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide Thursday. Thousands of people gathered at the Genocide memorial to lay flowers in the memory of not only those who perished during the first part of this century–but also in memory of those who were murdered during the Sumgait massacres.
Acting President Leonard Petrossian–Parliament Speaker Arsen Tovmassian–deputy Prime Minister Gerard Poghossian–Defense Minister Samvel Babayan and other officials also visited the event.
