YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Armenia’s Deputy Defense Minister and General Lieutenant of the Armenian Army–Artur Aghabekian–said Wednesday that if Azeri authorities continue threatening to increase their military budget–Armenia will move to increase its military budget as well.
In 2005 the three South Caucasian countries agreed to participate in NATO’s Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP) program–which demanded that the three states create a defense complex to be able to confront all threats. Aghabekian said the threatening statemen’s made by Azerbaijan contradict agreemen’s made within the IPAP framework.
"During any bilateral and multilateral meetings–we have presented argumen’s in connection with Azerbaijani military threats," said Aghabekian–adding that other countries are also aware of Azerbaijan’s threatening war rhetoric.
Aghabekian also said that Armenia’should have reformed its national security strategy according to the IPAP program guidelines by 2015.
"At that time we will have modern programs and good specialists–who will be able to plan and implement budget in compliance with NATO standards," said the Deputy Defense Minister.
