YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)– President Robert Kocharian received representatives of the press and television field from the Baltic States–Latvia–Lithuania–Estonia–Monday
According to presidential sources–Robert Kocharian pointed out that there are common grounds for communication between Armenia and the Balitic States–there is an interest towards each other and common willingness to restore and develop the ties that existed in the past.
Robert Kocharian dwelt on the recent developmen’s in the Karabakh settlement. He stressed that the package of proposals recently presented by the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmen contains new approaches–which will create rather vast possibilities for negotiations. Details are still kept secret–however–according to the president–they will be given broad discussion if they become a subject for negotiations.
Commenting on the principles of Armenia’s foreign policy–Robert Kocharian said that being situated in a region where historically interests of different states collide–Armenia is seeking good-neighborly relations with neighboring countries. According to the president–the Transcaucasus is a rather sensitive region where a prudent policy has to be conducted.
Outlining the main trends of the current economic policy–Robert Kocharian emphasized that by its pace of reforms Armenia takes one of the leading places among the CIS countries. He underscored that time is needed to deal with the numerous current problems. The past 7-8 months are a very short interval for noticeable changes–however–the bases laid down today make it possible to expect serious results in the near future.
