YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The process of Armenia’s admission to the World Trade Organization is nearing completion–Executive Manager of the TACIS Yerevan Office Ara Hakobian said at a meeting organized by the Agency for Educational Development. According to him–bilateral and multilateral negotiations in five out of six working groups have already been finished. He pointed out that Armenia’s membership in the WTO mostly depends on domestic processes–namely–the elimination of differences between the Armenian legislation and requiremen’s set by international agreemen’s. The admission fee is $25,000 and–the annual membership fee is approximately equal to this sum.
Head of the Foreign Markets and Regional Cooperation Department–Ministry of Industry and Trade–Tigran Davtian said that the first stage of creating favorable conditions for exports of goods–the legislative stage–has been gone through in Armenia. Export is free from any taxes and obstacles. At the second stage steps aimed at export promotion must be taken. The market should be studied–the information framework provided–and an export promotion agency established.
