YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The 50th anniversary of the Sevan Hydropower plant will be commemorated on July 30. Representative of the Development Department of the Ministry of Energy Alexander Kocharian announced that the schedule of events will also include a conference on hydroenergy.
Representatives from various international organizations as well as representatives from Russia–Iran–France–Germany and Georgia have been invited to attend the conference to discuss the development of hydroenergy in Armenia.
The Sevan Hydropower plant is one of six plants in the Sevan-Hrazdan Cascade and played a crucial role in Armenia’s development. Until 1961 all electricity in the republic had been generated from Hydropower plants–the bulk of which came from the Sevan-Hrazdan Cascade.
