YEREVAN (Itar-Tass)–One should not place Armenia’s participation in the program for the transport corridor from Europe via the Caucasus to Asia with the subject of relations with Russia–President Robert Kocharyan told journalists on Tuesday.
Having serious political ties with Russia and actively participating in regional cooperation programs–Armenia will strive to enhance Russia’s role in the region–the Armenia president said.
In his words–upon the opening of a railway via Abkhazia–Russia will play an enhanced role in the European Union’s program TRASECA. He also highly assessed Russia’s role in the settlement of conflicts in the region.
According to the Armenian president–his country has interests in the region and thanks to its stability–decisiveness and economic development it will play an ever-growing role there.
