YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The 16th plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation will be held in Armenia August 28-30 with Armenian Parliament Speaker Armen Khachatrian in the chair.
BSEC Parliamentary Assembly Secretary General George Petriku was on a three-day visit to Armenia in preparation for the session–the National Assembly’s Public Relations Department reported. Petriku met with Head of the Armenian delegation to the BSEC Parliamentary Assembly Victor Dallakian and delegation member Gagik Tadevossian Wednesday.
Petriku stressed the importance of organizing such a large-scale event in Armenia–vowing every effort to ensure successful workings of the session. Some organizational matters were discussed to Petriku’s meetings in Armenia and a tentative agreement was reached to share information on national festivals of BSEC member states among national television companies. Petriku emphasized the importance of developing relations between the BSEC participating countries and the Council of Europe–proposing ways to promote closer cooperation through the Armenian delegation to the Council of Europe.
According to the same source–the sides exchanged views on the problem of Lake Sevan. Dallakian and Tadevossian said that they would table a motion to put this issue on the agenda of the meeting of the BSEC Commission for Economy–Trade–Technology and Nature Protection to be held in Bucharest–Romania September 13-14. In Dallakian’s opinion–the Black Sea Economic Bank may make a valuable contribution to the resolution of the problem of the Sevan.
Top legislators of different states–Europarliament officials–national delegations as well as foreign diplomats accredited to Armenia and representatives of international organizations will be invited to take part in the meetings.
