MOSCOW (Noyan Tapan) – The Armenian cultural center in Irkutsk was set on fire during the early hours of June 27. According to an Interfax report–those responsible used gasoline to set the building ablaze after breaking into the one-story center through a window. The damage to the building was complete–as firefighters unsuccessfully attempted to stop the flames.
In related news–the Presidential Commission on Human Rights of Armenia received letters from the Russian Presidential Commission on Human Rights and the commissioner on Human Rights of Russia concerning the events that took place in Krasnodar. Both letters noted that the Krasnodar case is under control. According to one of the letters–the Krasnodar Internal Affairs Department had announced that 13 individuals had been arrested for the vandalism of Armenian churches. The Russian Commission on Human Rights also informed that they have applied to the Krasnodar government for additional information–which will be sent to their counterparts.
