YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Armenia’s Defense Minister–Lieutenant-General Vagharshak Haroutiunian was on a visit to Georgia from August 10-11 at the invitation of his Georgian counterpart Lieutenant-General David Tevzadze. As part of the visit Haroutiunian had meetings with the head of the Georgian defense department and other senior military officials.
He visited the Samtskhe-Javakheti province of Georgia where he met with the Georgian President’s representative–Governor Gigla Baramidze. Bilateral relations and other issues of mutual concern were discussed.
The two countries’ defense ministers reportedly held a public meeting in the Armenian-populated area of Javakhk. They learned about the vital problems of the local population and promised to facilitate solutions to them as far as possible. Haroutiunian–accompanied by Georgian officials–visited an Armenian school in Akhaltsikh.
The Armenian defense minister’s visit to Georgia proceeded in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
