YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Some 100 representatives of the Armenian Evangelical Association of America will arrive in Armenia for a ceremony that will mark the 90th anniversary of its establishment in the United States.
The anniversary will be simultaneously marked in the US, Armenia, and other countries where the Armenian Evangelical Church has a congregation.
The ceremony in Yerevan is scheduled for July 17 and will feature a concert that will be attended by top Armenian officials, and senior clergy.
The Armenian Evangelical Association of America was established on June 7, 1918 in Massachusetts. Its major mission is to help Armenia’s maintain their faith and national identity, to help the needy and support Armenian organizations.
The Armenian Evangelical Association was among the first organizations to respond to the 1988 destructive earthquake in Armenia by sending tons of food, clothes, medications and equipment, according to
Tigran Yumushakian, director of its general programs.
Doctor Rene Levonian, head of the World Armenian Evangelical Church and representative of the Armenian Evangelical Association of America in Armenia, said their ultimate goal is to be useful to Armenia and its people through the implementation of a variety of programs.
He said the annual budget of the Armenian Evangelical Association of America is $7 million, $3 million of which is earmarked for Armenia.
