On June 28-30–Alwan presents the New York Armenian Film Festival: "Films By and About Armenia’s."
This year’s festival will screen films that embody a varied cross section of contemporary Armenian cinema. It will feature films by well known Armenian directors such as Don Askarian–Henri Verneuil–and Atom Egoyan as well as introduce the public to a set of new directors and experimental filmmakers.
The films that have been selected address a range of themes that are at once specific to the Armenian experience and at the same time are universal and speak to the larger experience of humanity around the world. Themes of history–loss–memory–exile–culture–ethnicity–resilience and triumph are explored through compelling narratives and innovative filmmaking.
Several of the filmmakers will be in the audience.
All screenings will take place at the Cantor Film Center–New York University (NYU)–36 East 8th Street (between Broadway & University Place)–New York City.
The festival is sponsored by Fordham University–Communication & Media Studies–the Graduate Center CUNY–Middle East and Middle Eastern American Center–New York University–Middle Eastern Studies–and Columbia University–Middle Eastern and Asian Languages and Culture.
