YEREVAN(Combined Sources) — Azerbaijan’s leadership has lost the sense of reality and lives in a “kingdom of distorting mirrors”, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian said on Wednesday on a visit to the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, referring to a popular Soviet tale about an imaginary country of total falsehood.
According to the Armenian Foreign Ministry’s official website, while in Stepanakert, Nalbandian met with Karabakh’s leadership, including President Bako Sahakian. During the meetings, the sides held discussions over the Karabakh settlement processes, as well as the efforts being made by international mediators representing the OSCE Minsk Group.
Speaking at the State University of Artsakh during his visit, Minister Nalbandian again slammed Azerbaijan’s non-acceptance of the international proposal on establishing a mechanism to investigate border incidents.
“In fact, Azerbaijan’s criticism is aimed not only against the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs, but at least against all countries that have presided over the OSCE co-chair countries, the United Nations, the European Union, in general all countries and organizations that have supported the proposal,” Nalbandian said.
The Armenian diplomat said that Azerbaijan lives in a “kingdom of distorting mirrors” not only in the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh, but also in other issues, as its leadership claims that they are “the most economically stable, democratic and tolerant country with the best human rights standards in the world.” Meanwhile, Nalbandian stressed that different international organizations and human rights watchdogs see a different picture and the exact opposite.
The leadership of Azerbaijan names the Co-Chair states provocateurs only because they propose to create a mechanism for investigation of incidents,” Nalbandian said during the meeting with the faculty and students of the Artsakh State University.
“The Azerbaijani leadership does not refrain from accepting that it is behind the ceasefire violations and escalation of the situation. It is even boasting of that fact. Leaving aside whether Baku genuinely thinks there is something worth boasting of, or it is just a propaganda trick for the internal consumption, it should be once again stated that the Azerbaijani leadership has lost its sense of reality,” Minister Nalbandian said.
