A convoy of four Armenian trucks carrying 80 metric tons of food and medical supplies arrived in Aleppo, Syria, through the Turkish border.
Yerevan announced last week that it was sending humanitarian assistance to Syria using the closed border with Turkey at the city of Margara in Armenia. The border was temporarily opened to facilitate this operation, which Armenia’s foreign ministry said was coordinated with official Ankara.
Armenia’s Ambassador to Syria Ruben Kharazyan officially handed over the humanitarian aid to Fawwaz Hilal, the Deputy Governor of the Aleppo Governorate, the Aleppo-based Kantsasar newspaper reported on Monday.

The handover ceremony took place at the Aleppo Industrial and Agricultural Production Complex.
Armenia’s Consul general in Aleppo Ara Avetisyan and Aleppo State Foreign Relations Chief Ghassan Farouh also attended the ceremony.

The 80 tons of food and medical supplies will be distributed in Aleppo and Damascus.
“The Syrian and Armenian peoples have historically had friendly ties and provided mutual aid. I hope that the Syrian people will soon overcome these challenges and Syria will once again become a prosperous country,” ambassador Kharazyan said.
Hilal, Aleppo’s deputy governor, thanked the Armenian people and government for the aid, adding that “the friendly relations between the two countries are based on strong historical ties.”
