YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)– "If Turkey does not release Ocalan–Kurds will continue the struggle because Kurds have been able to bring up other political figures who can lead the Kurdish movement," Kurdish writer Charkiazeh Rash (Mstoyan) said during a demonstration staged Wednesday in front of the UN building in Yerevan.
According to chairman of the Kurdish division of the Union of Armenian Writers Karlene Chachani–it is not Ocalan who should be called a terrorist–but the government of Turkey–which "destroyed 5 thousand Kurdish settlemen’s and annihilated tens of thousands of people."
"Our movement will become even stronger–since Ocalan is the people and the people is Ocalan," he added.
The same day about 150 representatives of the Kurdish community of Armenia–crying out "Turkey is terrorist" and "Turkey is fascist" marched to the building of UN which was already surrounded by the police. Head of the UN Mission Katica Cekalovic and demonstrators had talks which had lasted for more than half an hour.
The demonstrators handed the UN representative a message–wherein said that UN and other international organizations–governmen’s of UN-member countries must assume commitmen’s to ensure immunity and security of Ocalan. The Kurdish community of Armenia believes that although there are no grounds and conditions for Ocalan to be put on trial–the trial of Ocalan–if it takes place–must be carried out in accordance with international standards–in Europe–at the international court–but not according to Turkey’s laws.
Katica Cekalovic promised that the message would be immediately sent to the UN Headquarters in New York.
After the demonstration–20 Kurds–including elderly–women and children went on a hunger-strike in front of the UN building in Yerevan. According to strikers–their actions will end only when UN and international organizations satisfy deman’s outlined in the message.
