YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Construction of a transit gas pipeline via Armenia is a program that has a real future–Chairman of the Russian "Gazprom" JSC Rem Vyakhirev said during a meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Robert Kocharian–Monday. Vyakhirev was in Armenia on a short working visit.
An agreement signed by Armenia and Gazprom JSC in January provides for the building of a Russia-Turkey gas pipeline running through Armenia. During the meeting–Kocharian and Vyakhirev discussed current problems related to the implementation of the above agreement. It was noted that technical-economic preparation has already begun.
The two emphasized that the power system is one of the most prospective spheres in Armenian-Russian cooperation. Participants of the meeting stressed that establishment of a joint venture with participation of the "Gazprom" and "Armgazprom" will allow to speed up the implementation of arrangemen’s outlined in the agreement.
The two sides reached agreemen’s on a number of problems pertaining to Armenia’s power system.
The meeting was also attended by the administration’s Chief of Stadd Shahen Karamanoukian–Head of government’s administration Shahen Karamanoukian–Energy Minister Gagik Martirossian–Armenia’s Ambassador to Russia Gagik Shahbazian–Ambassador of Russia to Armenia Andrey Ournov–and Director of the "Armgazprom" enterprise Ronald Adonts.
