MOSCOW (APA)–A parliamentary delegation from Armenia met with counterparts from Azerbaijan and Russia in the Russian Parliament building on Thursday for talks on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Each delegation included five members of parliament. The Armenian side consisted of: Ara Baloyan and Hermine Nagdalyan of the Republican Party of Armenia, Vardan Bostanjyan of the Prosperous Armenia Party, Vahan Hovhannisyan of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation and Vardan Khachatryan, an independent member of parliament.
They were joined by the Azerbaijani and Armenian ambassadors to Russia and the Russian presidential representative on international cultural cooperation, Mikhail Shvydkoi.
Chairing the meeting was the Deputy Speaker of the Russian parliament, Sabir Hajiyev, who told the APA that the Nagorno Karabakh conflict was discussed at the meeting.
“No discussions were held directly on the settlement of the conflict. You know that the parliamentarians of both countries hold meetings within the framework of a number of international organizations, including the Council of Europe,” Hajiyev said. “It was one of these meetings. The main aim is to support the negotiations carried out on the level of presidents and foreign ministers. We underlined the necessity of establishing relations between the parliaments.”
Hajiyev said they did not discuss the reopening of the Turkey-Armenia border and instead decided to have that meeting at a later date.
