YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Armenian Universities accepted 455 students from the Diaspora in 2008, with a majority of them enrolling in the teacher education program at the Khachatour Abovian University.
Applicants from 17 countries applied to study in Armenian universities in 2008, a majority of which were from Javakhq, Russia, Germany, France, Iraq, Iran, Greece, Mexico and Canada.
Almost every university in Armenia received applications from students from the Diaspora, according to Amalia Kocharian, a specialist at the Diaspora ties department in the Education and Science Ministry.
Students applying from the Diaspora were admitted based on results from written and oral exams. Applicants that did not receive passing results on the exams were given an opportunity to take preparation courses at the universities they applied to. About 70 state-funded apartmen’s were provided for Diaspora Armenian students who applied to major in Armenian studies, art and culture
