YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–President Boris Yeltsin of Russia issued a decree awarding medals "In Commemoration of Moscow’s 850th Anniversary" to 38 Armenian veterans. The ceremony of decoration was held at Russia’s embassy in Armenia on Tuesday–whereafter a reception was held.
Among the awardees were defenders of Moscow during the Second World War–heroes of the Soviet Union–guardsmen from the legendary Panfilov’s detachment and veterans of labor. The only woman among them was a native Muskovite–Tatiana Syrovatkina–who worked at a weapons factory during the war and later moved to Armenia.
"This is a modest medal to acknowledge these people’s contribution to the defense of our homeland," said Russia’s Ambassador to Armenia Andrey Ournov during the ceremony.
A concert organized by the Center of Russian Culture "Harmony" and the Russian Stanislavsky Theater was also held.
