GLENDALE–Armenia’s Education Minister Levon Mkrtchyan arrived in Los Angeles Wednesday for a three-day visit–during which he will become acquainted with education issues in the community and hold meeting with community leaders–in order to further Diasporan involvement in education reforms in Armenia.
The Education Minister will take time from his visit to keynote a banquet Friday organized by the Armenian Cultural Foundation. This annual ACF event will be held at the Beverly Wilshire hotel.
Mkrtchyan met Thursday with Western Prelate Bishop Moushegh Mardirossian and members of the Prelacy Religious and Executive councils. During the meeting–ways of expanding cooperation between Prelacy-affiliated schools and the Education Ministry were discussed.
Mkrtchyan is scheduled to visit the Western Diocese and hold a meeting with Western Primate Archbishop Vatche Hovsepian.
Also on Thursday–Mkrtchyan visited the Rose and Alex Pilibos and Arshag Dickranian schools–where he had the opportunity to meet with students and address their concerns regarding current Armenian affairs. He will visit the Ferrahian and Chamlian schools Friday.
Mkrtchyan also visited the Asbarez and Horizon offices–where he met with the editorial board and programming directors of the newspaper and television program–before sitting down for an interview with Horizon Live host Edward Jouharian.
