YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–"The Turkish government did not forget the vicious policy of its predecessors. Being unsatisfied with the extermination of one-and-a-half million Armenia’s and inspired by the indifference of the West–on the threshold of the 21st century–Turkey is violating international human rights laws and freedoms–continuing its barbaric attacks on Kurdish people," read a statement disseminated by Kurdish organizations of Armenia.
The authors say that under the pretext of persecutions of fighters of the Kurdish Workers Party–the Turkish army "occupied the territory of the Iraqi Kurdish Autonomy and started the process of genocide." It was emphasized that thousands of innocent individuals were murdered.
"We support the PKK struggle and denounce this new genocide on the part of the Turkish government. We appeal to all the states–international organizations and humanity to condemn the Turkish government’s inhuman policy."
The statement was signed by the Council of Armenian-Kurdish intelligentsia–Kurdish department of the Writers’ Union of Armenia–Society of Armenian-Kurdish Friendship–and the "Kurdistan" committee.
A close-knit Kurdish community lives in Armenia and has called that country home–even during the Soviet era.
Armenian authorities have extradited numerous Kurds to Turkey on charges of membership in the PKK.
