YEREVAN (Armenpress)-Armenia’s population experienced modest growth in the first quarter of the year with the country’s census reporting a population of 3,230,600 people as of April 1.
According Armenia’s Statistical Services, the majority of the population, still continues to reside in urban environmen’s and currently numbers at 2,068,500 people, while Armenia’s rural population stands at 1,161,200 people.
Armstat said the population rose in the first quarter of this year due to a 2.4 % natural growth in population, as approximately 9,500 babies were born in the first quarter. The growth in the country’s birthrate, the population report explained, is up 2.4 percent.
But the reported 2.4 % growth in population is contrasted by continued out migration, according to the Armstat report. The number of people to leave Armenia in the first quarter of this year numbered 3 000, an almost 13 percent increase from last year. The number of Armenians who left the country, however was 4,00 people, an almost 5 increase since last year.
