YEREVAN (Arka) —Eighteen hectares of forests were planted in Armenia by ArmForest the first six months of 2016, said Director of ArmForest, Martun Matevosian, during a news conference on Tuesday. The trees were planted through volunteer work throughout the year.
According to Matevosian, more young trees will be planted in autumn on a 10 hectare area along the coast of Lake Sevan with the assistance of the Foundation for Restoration and Development of Forests. He added that trees will also be planted in Gugark and Lalvar regions.
Matevosyan also added that in the first half of the year, fifteen cases of fire have been recorded in areas overseen by ArmForest. “The fires affected 16 hectares of land, of which 9.74 hectares were woodland. No trees were damaged as a result, only the grass was burnt,” he said.
