LOS ANGELES—As a humanitarian taskforce, the Javakhk Fund Committee of the Armenian Relief Society (ARS) of Western USA is cognizant of the determination of the communities in Javakhk (Georgia) to preserve the Armenian heritage. Recently, the committee has focused its efforts on Akhaltskha, where a substantial number of Armenians live and where the Youth Center does not have sufficient room to accommodate language and cultural programs for the youth. In addition, there is a waiting list to enroll children in kindergarten, which is the foundation for the education of the new generation.
The ARS Javakhk Fund has undertaken the expansion of the Akhaltskha Youth Center to address these needs and accommodate more children in the kindergarten program.
During this Christmas season, the ARS is appealing to community members to share their joy of the season by providing funding to expand the center and to ensure education for the children. “On the eve of the centenary of the Armenian Genocide, we will have chronicled a new page of success in our nation’s history,” a statement from the ARS says.
