ATHENS–The Armenian Relief Society–Inc. began its 67th convention Monday in the port suburb of Kavouri.
Attending the opening ceremony of the convention were Greek parliament speaker and long-time Armenian supporter Apostolos Kaklaman’s–the Prelate of Greece–Archbishop Sahag Ayvazian and Armenia’s ambassador to Greece Vahram Kajoyan. Also attending the meeting were the representative of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Bureau Vicken Hovsepian (Canada)–the former chairwoman of the ARS Central Executive Vanouhi Issadjianian–the chairman of the ARF Greece Central Committee Krikor Ertchenian–the representative of the Armenian Catholic Community Bishop Andreas Bedoghlian–the representative of the Evangelical Community of Greece Father Viken Tcholakian and representatives from area organizations and our sister publication the Azad Or.
Delegates from 20 of chapter have converged on Greece to attend this meeting–which takes place every three years and at the end of which a new Central Executive is elected.
The convention began with welcoming remarks by the chairwoman of the Armenian Blue Cross of Greece Lucy Shangayan–who thanked the attendees in Greek and commended Kaklaman’s’ presence at the meeting.
The meeting was officially convened by ARS Central Executive chairwoman Maro Minassian–whose remarks were followed by greetings from Kaklaman’s–Hovsepian–the Prelate–Bishop Kajoyan and community benefactor Harout Saradjian.
Seta Khedeshian (Armenian) and Maro Frounjian (English) were elected to chair the meeting–while Graciela Kevorkjian and Maral Mkhchian were elected as the Armenian secretaries and Muriel Parseghian and Vera Davitian were chosen as the English language secretaries.
Liza Avakian–Anna Bulgarian–Rita Manjikian and Silva Sagherian were elected to serve on the nomionations committee.
Taking part in the meeting–in an advisory capacity are Hasmig Derderian–Mayda Barazian–Araxi Apelian–Manishag Selerian and Seta Sevagian.
A welcoming dinner-banquet was held Saturday at the Amarilia hotel.
