BAKU (Noyan Tapan)–Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Vilayat Guliyev–in an interview with BBC–said the primary goal of Azerbaijan is the liberation of the lands "occupied" by the Armenia’s. The Foreign Minister went on to say that if peaceful means to resolve the conflict prove to be unsuccessful–then Azerbaijan would have no other choice but to resort to war. This policy has been reflected in recent calls for war made in the Azerbaijani Parliament–which proves the Karabakh issue is of utmost concern to the public.
Guliyev said the continuation of peaceful negotiations is feasible at present–and that a peaceful solution which will be mutually acceptable to both sides is possible. The fact that both presidents are continuing negotiations and meetings indicates hope for a peaceful resolution.
However–Guliyev said he believes the format of the talks need to be changed since it is the presidents who are directly involved with resolving the conflict instead of the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group coming up with proposals.
