BAKU (Armenpress)–Azeri President Heydar Aliyev–who is on visit to Nakhichevan–excluded the possibility of his meeting with Armenian President Robert Kocharian on the Armenian-Azeri border.
The Azeri 525 Gazette writes that in his speeches delivered in Nakhichevan–Aliyev stressed that the Azeri side is ready to settle the Karabakh conflict peacefully. He also confirmed that a meeting of the two presidents will take place soon–but stressed that the meeting will not be held in the Sardarak region–which is located near the border.
"There is no room for Kocharian here; this is Nakhichevan," he stressed.
According to the newspaper–on June 18 at the Nakhichevan Parliament–a council of the region’s highest military headquarters–presided by President Aliyev took place–during which the Azeri president was familiarized with the existing problems and was informed about the readiness of the army.
Aliyev was pleased with the level of the troops and called on to the military representatives "to be ready to protect the country’s security."
