BAKU (Armenpress)–It appears that US Secretary of State Colin L. Powell has ruffled a few feathers in Azerbaijan–with a recent statement that alludes to persistent "frozen" conflicts in Georgia–Moldova–and Mountainous Karabagh.
The outcry stems from Powell’s failure to categorize Mountainous Karabagh as a part of Azerbaijan–but in same vein as Georgia and Moldova–which face ongoing conflicts from respective breakaway republics.
"Presenting Nagorno Karabagh as a separate subject is inadmissible. All our efforts–including the issue we tried to include in the UN agenda–were aimed at explaining to the international community the essence of the Karabagh conflict. We once again try to confirm that there is no difference among the three conflicts–as their basis is the territorial issue," commented Elshad Iskenderov of Azerbaijan’s permanent mission to the UN.
The head of the Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry press service–however–announced that no formal protest will be sent to the US on the issue.
