STEPANAKERT (Noyan Tapan)–The September 28 sitting of the court hearing the March 22 case began with the interrogation of Samvel Babayan’s cousins – Garnik–Valery and Henrik Tsatrian–who live in Babayan’s home village.
The Nagorno Karabakh Republic’s permanent representation in Armenia reports that Garnik Tsatrian–who is charged with stealing a large batch of weapons–confirmed the fact that weapons and ammunition were taken from a military unit and stored in the garage of Samvel Babayan’s village house. He also confirmed that Samvel Babayan had given him the key of the house for that purpose.
According to Valery Tsatrian–at the end of last December he participated in unloading an army KamAZ truck–which delivered weapons to the village house of Samvel Babayan–and placing the cargo in the garage. He confirmed his involvement in stealing and keeping weapons. Henrik Tsatrian–who confirmed the testimony of his brothers–also admitted his guilt.
Defendant Armen Musaelian–the driver of the KamAZ–was charged with stealing weapons. He confessed that he used his truck to transport weapons–but stressed that as a soldier he was obliged to obey the orders of his superiors.
When it was Samvel Babayan’s turn to testify–the principal defendant in the case asked the court to postpone the hearing and allow him to have a confidential talk to the chairman and public prosecutor.
Then–the court began to hear the evidence of the victims. As Arkady Ghoukassian is currently undergoing a course of post-surgery rehabilitation and is not able to be present in court–he is being represented by Nagorno Karabakh Republic Parliament member Karen Baburian. The parliament member told the court that Arkady Ghoukassian had no claims to the court yet.
Bodyguard Samvel Gabrielian–who was in the President’s car while the terrorists attacked it–was seriously wounded and presented the details of the attack. The driver Sergey Sargssian–who is undergoing treatment in a Yerevan clinic and also couldn’t attend the trial–was represented by his brother. Both Samvel Gabrielian and Sergey Sargssian claimed damages.
