BAKU—The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs declared Wednesday that Nagorno Karabakh has no legal basis on which to prosecute two Azerbaijani citizens detained three months ago, referring to Shahbaz Guliyev and Dilham Askerov, who entered the town of Karvachar in July, killing one Armenian.
The third saboteur, Hasan Hasanov, was killed and his body was handed over to Baku earlier last month.
The actions of the infiltrating group left an underage resident of Karvachar killed and a woman wounded.
Azerbaijan continues to insist that the members of the group had “arrived” in Nagorno Karabakh to visit the graves of their relatives.
Artsakh Defense Army commander Movses Hakobyan promised in August that the captives would be tried according to Artsakh’s laws. “We’re dealing with a specially trained group, they will be charged according to the laws of the NKR,” Hakobyan was reported as saying by Armenpress.
The Prosecutor General’s Office of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic is set to begin the indictment process soon.
