NEW YORK (Combined Sources)–On Thursday–June 24–Peter Balakian–along with Larry Moss–director of the forthcoming New York premiere production of Beast on the Moon–will be interviewed on The Majority Report–on Air America Radio across the country.
The program will air at 5:30 PM Pacific time–and can be heard via webcast by logging onto to www.airamericaradio.com.
Hosted by actress and activist Janeane Garofolo–the program will focus on US and Turkish denial of the Armenian Genocide–and recent Turkish efforts to suppress the award-winning play Beast on the Moon–whose central characters are Armenian Genocide survivors.
Set in 1920s Milwaukee–"Beast on the Moon" explores the lives of Armenian Genocide survivors–but at its core–is a universal woman’s story. Seta–a young girl is bought by Aram–a forbidding stranger–as his picture bride. Grateful that she has been rescued from death–she discovers that her fate as wife involves a different kind of suffering: a soul-chilling domestic servitude to a desperately wounded man obsessed about begetting sons to replace his dead family. The deep irony is that both man and woman–who have escaped atrocities–are bound to a new tyranny at home.
