YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Armenian Parliament deputy speaker and leader of the Yerkrapah faction–Albert Bazeyan announced to parliament Tuesday that there was a limit to his party’s support for the authorities.
He criticized the executive branch of undertaking privatization measures which had–rightfully–stirred the criticism of the Armenian people.
Bazeyan said that efforts should be undertaken to ensure a smooth transition from the current economic crisis in Armenia.
Speaking at an emergency session of parliament–which discussed Armenia’s telecommunications bill–Bazeyan–spoke out against the opposition bill.
At the same time he warned that the government should be more "transparent and accountable" in its activities or risk losing Yerkrapah support.
Debates will continue in the National Assembly on Wednesday on another opposition proposal to form an ad hoc commission to look into allegations of corruption and mismanagement among former ArmenTel managers and senior government officials.
