YEREVAN—An upcoming visit by President Donald Trump’s National Security Advisor John Bolton to Armenia is “important” according to Armenia’s Acting Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan who detailed to reporters Thursday the issues that official Yerevan will raise with the U.S. official.
Last week, Bolton announced on Twitter that he would visit the region beginning Saturday.
“On October 20th I’ll be travelling to Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Georgia to meet with my counterparts and other senior officials to advance American interests on a range of security issues,” Bolton said in a Twitter post.
“[Bolton’s visit] is a very important visit. Bolton is traveling to Russia, he is coming to the region, and we have our agenda with the United States that has been developed throughout years. There are bilateral issues, there is a regional agenda, around which we will hold meetings with the US representative,” said Mnatsakanyan.
Armenia’s top diplomat also took the time to address the controversial statements made by the outgoing U.S. Ambassador to Armenia Richard Mills, who in an interview published this week by the EVN Report said that returning what he called “occupied territories” to Azerbaijan was an inevitable part of the Karabakh conflict resolution process. He also expressed his dismay and how little traction that issue has had in Armenia during his more than three-year tenure in Armenia.
‘
“Our position on the Karabakh conflict is clear and very concrete. Last time I spoke about it in Luxembourg, the prime minister also discussed it. We are working and negotiating within the parameters of our position and will continue the move toward that direction,” Mnatsakanyan told reporters.
Just hope that Russia doesn’t strike a deal and sacrifice Artsakh in the process. After all, Armenia and Artsakh are mere pawns for the regional superpower.
You are correct about Russia BUT I am more worried about the US & EU agenda than the Russian agenda.
… and so is the crappy azerbaichian.
The trip will only serve the interest of the US and the Turks. Don’t keep your hopes high, especially with the money loving unprincipled Trump administration, and the ones before it.
State of Emergency, don’t worry about that. Armenia is the only thing standing in the way of a Turkey stretching from Istanbul to the Caspian Sea; it wouldn’t serve Russian interests to “sacrifice” Artsakh. It wouldn’t serve Iran’s interests either, who’s got tens of millions of Turk inhabitants in it’s north. So the real question is, who would benefit from a disadvantaged Russia and Iran? As the French say, “Walla”, there you have it! Shouldn’t take a genius to see thru it, it’s pretty clear.
Nothing good for hayastan can come from war monger Bolton’s probing his probosis into the Caucasus. Russia will never cede Artsakh to the Turks. Bolton and his White House neocon warmongers will not only cede artsakh to the Turks but hayastan too. Count your blessings for Russia’s interests in hayastan and the 102nd army base. Were it not for the 102nd army base, hayastan would disappear from the maps. Trust Washington, London, Paris , to trust the oil . Remember Cilicia, the stab in the back.
Azad – did you have ‘Russia’ for breakfast again this morning? Wake up and smell the stuff around you. If Russians ever considered the interest of the Armenians, all Bolshevik Era treaties with the Turks, Azeris and Georgians would have been annulled by now. What Armenians need is the backing of a major power like China. I would rather see a Chinese base in Armenia than a Russian one. Just look at our history, what good has the self-serving Russia done in the past two hundred years in the region?
MAKE NO MISTAKE BOLTON IS NO FRIENDS OF ARMENIAN NATION
American weapons are grossly over priced, very difficult to operate and maintain and they work best only against enemies that wear sandals and turbans. American officials are war criminals and they only serve the interests of the Zionist state. Therefore, American officials and their war toys are not welcome in Armenia. No one, including Nikol and his Western funded cohorts, will be able to drive a wedge between Russia and Armenia. Russia and Armenia are locked in an embrace no one can break for the following reason. No Russia in Armenia = no Armenia in the south Caucasus. No Armenia in the south Caucasus = no Russia in the strategic south Caucasus. Russians and Armenians have been natural allies for two hundred-plus years and will remain allies for well into the foreseeable future. God bless Russia. God bless Armenia. And may God help protect Russo-Armenian friendship from all enemies both foreign and domestic.
