SYUNIK—A shootout Sunday night outside the home of the Provincial Governor left one person dead and another, an Artsakh Army commander, wounded, forcing the controversial governor to announce his “temporary” resignation, reported hetq.am.
After a shoot out near the home of the notoriously scandal-prone Governor of Syunik Souren Khachatryan in Goris, Artak Boudaghyan, Commander of the N Artsakh Military Unit, is in serious condition and his brother, Avetik, was killed on the spot.
According to one Goris resident, an argument broke out at a party at which Khachaturyan was present. He then proceeded to curse Boudaghyan’s mother prompting one of them to slap the governor. The disagreement continued around Khachatryan’s house.
The argument then broke out again, in and around Khachatryan’s house.
On Monday, Khachatryan said that under the circumstances, he could no longer continue to serve as governor and that he would be temporarily stepping down.
“I regret that I could not prevent the tragic incident that occurred near my house. Now, all questions will be given an objective examination,” read a statement issued by Khachatryan.
The Provincial Governor said he would await the findings of the investigation and the decision of higher-ups as to whether he could resume his official duties.

In a statement released by Armenia’s Prosecutor General’s Office, the criminal case has been handed over to the Investigative Division of the Ministry of Defense since one of the victims was a member of the Armed Forces.

Military School Student Gunned Down
A student of the Vazgen Sargsyan military academy died from a gunshot wound in Yerevan Saturday night, the press office of Armenian ministry of defense reported Sunday.
According to the statement, the incident took place Saturday around 9 p.m. during the changing of the guard.
Reportedly, third-year student Armen Melkumyan shot toward the guard commander—his classmate—Sipan Movsisyan.
Movsisyan was transported to Grigor Lusavorich medical center and was pronounced dead at 10:20 p.m. from a gun shot wound to the chest.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted under the penal code provisions; a forensic examination is to be carried out.
According to preliminary reports, the incident happened when the students started quarrelling and exchanged insults – one of them shot in response.
Armen Melkumyan has been detained, with an investigation under way.

Please shed more light about this corrupt man and give the story about the murdered soldier better publicity.
