BURBANK—The Armenian Youth Federation Burbank Varak will host a special screening on Friday, November 18 of the Armenian musical comedy, Yerevan Blues.
The film stars Mikael Pogosyan, Angelina Babajanyan, Miss Armenia 1997, as well as famous singer and lyricist Ruben Hakhverdyan. The event will begin at 8:30 p.m. and will be held at the Burbank Armenian Center, located at 321 E. Magnolia Boulevard in Burbank.
The film portrays the life of an artist (Mikael Pogosyan) in the early 1990s who is enamored with Yerevan. It is composed of several short skits, taking place in various locations and settings throughout the city. Various scenes allude to Armenian history, present day Armenia, and the difficult life of an artist in Yerevan. Despite the fact that Yerevan Blues is a comedy, it highlights and criticizes the social and political issues of the time. It reveals the struggles the people of Armenia faced in the early 1990s, during the post-soviet era. Yerevan Blues conveys a powerful message of the love and dedication one possesses for their country, no matter its condition.
By watching this film, viewers will gain better insight on the state of Armenia during post-soviet era and realize the changes the country has gone through since then.
