YEREVAN (Reuter)–In a decree Tuesday Levon Ter-Petrosyan merged the Economy Ministry with the Finance Ministry and the Industry Ministry with the Trade Ministry–a spokesman’said.
A decree dismissing Economy Minister Vahram Avenesyan and Industry Minister Ashot Safaryan was part of a major government reshuffle–he said.
The spokesman–Amassia Ohanesyan–said the new Economy and Finance Ministry would be headed by current Finance Minister Armen Darbinyan and the new Industry and Trade Ministry would be run by current Trade Minister Garnik Nanagulyan.
He declined to comment further on the shake-up other than to say the move was to "make the economy more dynamic."
He said that more government changes were possible in the near future.
