YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Armenian President Robert Kocharian visited the Holy See of Etchmiadzin on December 11. The president expressed his regrets to Catholicos of All Armenia’s Karekin II that his visit to Etchmiadzin was delayed by the October 27 tragic events.
During the visit the discussions focused on church-state relations which are of great importance to settling numerous domestic problems and to the process of establishing closer relations between Armenia and the Diaspora.
His Holiness expressed concern over some unrest in the country’s domestic political life after the tragic events–praying to the Lord for assistance and peace in the country. Karekin II wished the president success in his efforts toward preserving stability in the country and raising its prestige. His Holiness expressed his support to the president and the government.
In his turn–Kocharian stressed the important role of the Church in forming a healthy and moral atmosphere in the country.
Thereafter the Armenian president and the Catholicos of All Armenia’s held a private meeting.
