YEREVAN (Itar-Tass)–The Holy See of Etchmiadzin issued an announcement Monday regarding the deteriorating health of His Holiness Karekin I–Catholicos of All Armenia’s
The Catholicos is being monitored by doctors and is given the necessary medical assistance–said the press release–updating the Catholicos’ condition.
Karekin I was diagnosed with cancer–and after numerous treatmen’s in New York–he returned to Etchmiadzin recently to complete his recuperation.
"The spiritual brotherhood of the Church has been praying to the Almighty–hoping for divine assistance to the Catholicos," the press release said. The Armenian Church has also called on all parishioners to join in prayers for the Catholicos.
On Monday afternoon Armenian President Robert Kocharian visited the Catholicos at his bedside.
Head of the fourth holy throne in the hierarchy of the Armenian Church– Patriarch of Turkey–Archbishop Mesrop Mutafyan–was scheduled to arrive in Yerevan to visit the Catholicos on Monday.
