On Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010 (7pm ET/PT) one of the worlds most respected and watched current affairs program, 60 Minutes (CBS TV Network), will air a segment on the Armenian Genocide. Bob Simon and Peter Balakian traveled all the way to Deir Elzor to visit the Armenian Auschwitz and shed light on the untold stories of the victims of the first Genocide of the 20th century.

The 60-minutes segment on the Armenian genocide is full of *subversive language* and *strategic misrepresentation*, such as, the Armenians call it their Holocaust.
As if only Armenians call it genocide; no one else does. The proper characterization would be: Jursit Raphael Lemkin coined the word Genocide to specifically describe the barbarity that befell the Armenians at the hands of the Turkish state. It is the International Association of Genocide Scholars (IAGS) that calls it the Armenian genocide.
It is not a *battle over History* as the program claims through subversive language; it is a battle over Acknowledgment of the Crime of genocide by the Turkish State with Accountability.

Nice going. We will win over Turks. Peter found key evidence which will lead to the resolution of the issue. He is a astute and honerable man of 1000s words.

There’s a mistake in this report about uttering the word “genocide” by none of the presidents of the USA.
I just want to correct Mr. Simon that actually the word genocide is already uttered by president Reagan as follows:
“Like the genocide of the Armenians before it, and the genocide of the Cambodians which followed it — and like too many other such persecutions of too many other peoples — the lessons of the Holocaust must never be forgotten.”

With all the short-comings mentioned above in other comments, I beleive this was the best presentation of the Armenian Genocide on a major network. We need to congratulate Peter Balakian for his outstanding efforts and we should also call CBS and thank them for airing it. The number for CBS is (212) 975-4321.

True, may God bless Mr. Peter Balakian for all his great efforts and deeds; he is great. However, there were some mistakes like the International association of Genocide Scholars (IAGS) that calls it the Armenian Genocide after studying all aspects of it for I believe about 30 years now. They are the ones who found it terribly wrong to have Turkey the denialist country to override the truthfulness of Genocide Scholars’ works and question the veracity of the Armenia Genocide. It would have also been the right thing to say Raphael Lemkin who has created the world Genocide; and he had the Armenian Genocide in mind when he coined for the word.
I also wish that Balakian previously had scientists checked the DNA of a good number of the bones of the Armenians at Shadaadin in Der Zoer who lost their lives by the hands of the Turkish government in 1915, and they were 450,000 of them just in Der El Zoer, so that when that Turkish man lied through his teeth and said that it could have been any nationalities’ bones; Balakian could have had his DNA’s proofs smudged right into his face.

I agree with John, Peter Balakian is certainly to be congratulated for his outstanding work and for what he achieved. Kuddos to Mr. Balakian. There is only one thing that would have been even better. If ahead of time he could have brought some scientists to check the DNA’s of some of the bones at Saadin cave in Der Zoer who undoubtedly would have been found to be of Armenian descent all 450,000 of them. That way when that Turkish man said that it may have been from different ethnicities; the Armenians would have been able to smudge the scientist’s founding of the DNA’s that would have been all of Armenian descent. It would have been a proof that would have shut the Turkish politician.

In my previous post I meant to say that Balakian and Armenians would have been able to smudge the foundings of the scientists of the bones of Armenians’ DNA’s to the Turkish politician’s face. To shut the Turkish politician forever and for good.

Agreed with John Keussayan; however, let’s face it ,it was a small crumb from the dominant media group with their Holocaust. It had the subversive language mentioned by Berge; the segment was deliberately and incorrectly titled and It was played during closing games of Olympics. Still,I’ll make the call to CBS myself. It is a start.
