GLENDALE, CA—Chamlian Armenian School hosted an all-day Staff Development Workshop on January 26, focusing primarily on the integration of technology in the classroom.
Chamlian’s entire staff and faculty, as well as teachers from Mesrobian, Alex Pilibos and Ari-Guiragos Minassian, participated in the hands-on workshops presented by Nicole Gordon-Dewey, an education consultant from CCS Presentation Systems. Dewey shared valuable information on mastering the SMART Board technology and utilizing it effectively to support classroom instruction.
The first part of the day consisted of the SMART Board Basics workshop, while the second part consisted of smaller sessions designed for grade-specific groups. Elementary school teachers met to update the existing computer lab curriculum, integrating it with the core curriculum.
Middle school teachers took part in the SMART Board Beyond the Basics course, where they received the next level of training in their use of the Notebook 10 Software. Armenian teachers and assistants attended a workshop presented by Saro Nazarian, which covered the basics of the SMART Board, and how it can be incorporated into the Armenian curriculum using various Armenian internet sites and YouTube documentary videos.
Chamlian Armenian School is proud to be the first Armenian school to incorporate the use of SMART Board technology in its curriculum and instruction. Currently, the school has six SMART Boards, and is planning on purchasing additional units by the next school year. Through the use of such technology, Chamlian’s faculty will have the ability to further differentiate instruction to meet the needs of every student, as it strives to foster a greater enthusiasm for learning.
