FRAZIER PARK, CA–While the rest of Southern California Armenians celebrated Armenian Independence Day and Memorial Day with barbecues and pool parties, this past weekend, almost 50 Chamlian Armenian School families attended the first-ever Chamlian Family Camp. Nestled in the woods of Frazier Park, California, on Homenetmen Camp Tecuya’s campsite, Chamlian parents and students gathered together for a memorable long weekend. The Family Camp was organized in part to close out a year-long celebration of the school’s 35th Anniversary.
Families arrived Friday afternoon with much anticipation and excitement built up from the first day of the school year when the Family Camp was first announced. A year of anticipation resulted in veteran campers and those who had never camped before coming together, looking forward to pitching their tents and sleeping under the stars.
The weekend was full of fun and exciting activities for all ages. For those who wanted to venture around the campsite, morning and afternoon hikes were scheduled. The children learned precision while participating in supervised archery. Parents and children competed against each other in tug-of-war and potato sack races. For the sports enthusiasts, you had soccer and volleyball. There were plenty of arts & crafts for the children, from making bracelets, hats, bandanas or placing their handprint on an official Camp T-shirt as a keepsake for their school.
Even with all this fun, if you just wanted to relax, you had lazy mornings and afternoons under the sun, enjoying the company of old friends and making new ones. Of course, the ultimate in the camp experience, were evenings filled with music and song as everyone gathered around the campfire.
Families may have arrived unsure of what the first-ever Chamlian Family Camp would be like, but they all departed with one common thought…where do I sign up for next year?
The Chamlian 35th Anniversary Committee would like to thank Homenetmen Camp Tecuya for their hospitability and support in making this event a memorable one for our campers.
