GLENDALE—In an effort to spark students’ interest in spelling, Chamlian conducts a school Spelling Bee each year through the Los Angeles County Office of Education. This year’s Bee took place on Thursday, February 29 in the school auditorium.
In preparation for the event, students were provided with a study guide, as well as a hand-out of the rules and regulations for the contest. Teachers in 4th-6th grade then conducted a classroom Spelling Bee to determine the top three finalists from their class who would go on to compete in the school Bee.
This year’s 1st place winner was 6th grader Mareen Kassabian, with 5th grader Andre Kaypekian placing 2nd. On March 28, Mareen will represent Chamlian at the Los Angeles County Spelling Bee.
