YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–An exhibition "Treasury of the Armenian Apostolic Church," devoted to the 1700th anniversary of Christianity in Armenia–opened on Wednesday at the History Museum of Yerevan.
For the first time there will be an exhibit with samples of a church plate–church dresses decorated with gold and silver–ornamen’s–among other things. They represent the art of Armenian masters of Constantinople–Smyrna–Tbilisi–New Nakhitchevan and other places.
"Today I welcome with love this moment–when we review the history–learning the values kept as strength giving belief and art," Catholicos of All Armenia’s–His Holiness Karekin I said at the opening of the exhibition.
The opening ceremony was attended by Gagik Harutiunian–chairman of Armenia’s Constitutional Court.
"Today I wish here were more representatives of state structures–academic–university circles–science institutes,"Catholicos said.
The same day His Holiness and Harutiunian visited another exhibition also devoted to the same date – "Ani in the Armenian Art" which opened at the National Picture Gallery of Armenia.
Paintings by Bashinjaghian–Soureniants–Fetvachian–Sarian depict churches–historical monumen’s of Ani.
According to Director of gallery Shahen Khachatrian–many of those works will be shown in 2000 at an exhibition in Paris.
