YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–National Assembly Chairman Karen Demirchian received Secretary General of the Council of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly Mikhail Krotov on June 24.
Once again congratulating Karen Demirchian upon his election as Speaker of the Armenian Parliament–Krotov presented in detail the structure of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly and its current proceedings and main trends of activities.
He said the establishment of the structure was aimed at harmonizing the legislations of CIS member states and discussing joint tasks in most political and social spheres. Krotov referred to the development of model laws for national legislations of CIS member states–assistance to integration processes and peace-making activities.
Demirchian–in turn–pointed out that Armenia had taken an active part in the proceedings of the CIS Parliamentary Assembly and would continue to do so in order to facilitate solutions to numerous problems with its efficient proposals and realistic approaches. In this regard–he stressed the need for establishing a common market–a free trade zone–revising the current customs dues and value-added taxes.
The sides also discussed issues related to the economic–social and cultural spheres.
