YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–A scientific conference on Armenian-Russian literary ties was held in Yerevan within the framework of arrangemen’s dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. The conference was organized by the Coordinating Council of the organizations of Russaian compatriots of Armenia–the Armenian Center for Russain Language Development and the Russian-Armenian Slavonic State University.
Bella Yesajanian–the Scientific Head of the Armenian Center for Russian Language Development–pointed out the importance of the Russian language for Armenia: "We stay in very narrow frames without the Russian language. It is the Russain language that gives us an opportunity to widen them." Yesajanian also said that an Olympiad for children entitled "Russia and the Russian Language in my Life" will be held in the Armenian resort town of Tsaghkadzor at the end of April.
Azat Yeghiazarian–the Director of the Armenian NAS Institute of Literature–mentioned that Armenian and Russian colleagues try to restore what was lost during the past years. He reported that a joint Armenian-Russian conference on the problem of national self-consciousness and literature will be held this June.
Gennady Baryshnikov–the Advisor of the Russian Embassy in Armenia–attached great importance to humanitarian and cultural relations–stressing that it is they that define all the rest mutual relations between the two peoples in the political–economic–military and other spheres.
