BAKU (News.az)—A delegation of high-ranking officials from the Council of Europe (CoE) will visit Armenia on October 19 for a conference on the Future of Democracy in Europe.
The delegation will include Council of Europe Secretary General Thorbjorn Jagland, Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Euorpe Chairman Mevlut Cavusoglu, and Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Thomas Hammarberg.
The two-day forum, titled “Perspectives 2020: Principles and Challenges to Democracy in Europe,” is part of the CoE’s Forum for the Future of Democracy initiative, established at the 2005 Warsaw CoE summit. The forum will be held in Yerevan and is set to discuss and assess the application and impact of the principles of democratic governance on the modern political and social changes in the CoE member states.
Also attending are, the Chairman of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, PACE parliamentarians, high-ranking officials of the Armenian government, and foreign journalists.
