Councilmember Paul Krekorian visited Ararat Charter School on February 3 with his Chief of Staff, Adrin Nazarian, and Field Deputy, Mshak Ghazarian. Board member Gabriel Injejikian was also present along with Principal Aida Tatiossian who greeted and welcomed the Councilman and his staff. The group toured the campus of ACS and visited the classrooms.
Councilman Krekorian witnessed that each classroom at ACS is inviting with colorful bulletin boards displaying student work with attached criteria charts, rubrics, and kid friendly standards. The daily schedule was written on the edge of each classroom whiteboard. The desks were arranged in groups to allow for maximum interaction and “think, pair/share” activities. The classroom walls were adorned with written pieces, drawings, maps, charts, and pictures that reflect the current topic of study. All work displayed was student generated. No prefabricated, store bought materials exist at Ararat Charter School. The classrooms are student centered and are constantly evolving to reflect the learning that is occurring within those walls.
Krekorian took time to speak to students and asked them questions about their current topic of study. He toured the cafetorium while students were at lunch and visited the computer lab that houses 12 computers. The Councilman met Ararat Charter School’s dedicated teachers and had a chance to converse with many staff members. He has been an ardent supporter of Ararat and gave advice and assistance to the committee long before the school’s formation, when Krekorian was in the Assembly and a member of the Burbank Unified Board of Education.
After the school and classroom tour, Councilman Krekorian and his staff had refreshments in the teacher’s lounge. The Governing Board, Principal Tatiossian, Teachers, Staff, and Parents thank Councilmember Paul Krekorian, Chief of Staff, Adrin Nazarian, and Field Deputy, Mshak Ghazarian for visiting Ararat Charter School.
