YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The Ijevan-Noyemberian highway has been the recent target of constant bombings by the Azeri armed forces.
There are unconfirmed reports that on April 16-17–Azeri armed units began digging trenches near the highway on the territory of Azerbaijan. The Armenian Defense Ministry denied reports that the Azeri armed units had succeeded in entering Armenia’s territory.
According to the data available–on April 19-20 Azeri troops–which occupied positions near the this portion of the highway–almost blocked traffic from Ijevan to Noyemberian.
"Armmotorway" enterprise reports that sometimes the traffic on this portion of the highway is interrupted because of the bombing by the Azeris. However–according to this source–the bombings are occasional and as of Tuesday the highway was opened to commuters.
Azeri sources report that the Armenian armed forces are trying to seize a militarily strategic area in the Ghazakh region of Azerbaijan.
According to the Azeri Defense Minister Safar Abiyev–the Armenian side–"closely approached the positions occupied by the Azeri armed forces–but as a result of counter-measures taken by the Azerbaijani side–had to retreat–after losing 50 combatants."
